Scott Hoffman is the oldest of 4 siblings, a\u00a0loving son, brother, uncle & friend.\u00a0He is a nature loving,\u00a0science fiction enthusiast, music buff. The best big brother ever. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served 4 years. Once discharged started his young adult life finishing school, playing guitar and volunteering at the Page Museum in L.A. (the La Brea Tar Pits).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

One year after being Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy (May 12, 1981), Scott cut his hand and went to a Veteran\u2019s hospital for surgery to repair the tendon. While performing surgery, the doctors made a grave error with the anesthetic, and Scott sustained a traumatic brain injury. This medical error caused a coma, which lasted over 7 weeks and left him without the use of his arms and legs, without speech, and without the ability to care for himself in any way. Scott is a loving, kind soul, our big brother, who we love so much.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Scott is now 64\u00a0years old.\u00a0Up until recently, the\u00a0Veterans Administration\u00a0funded his care\u00a0(reasonably so, as they caused the injury).\u00a0However,\u00a0in early 2021, they\u00a0stopped\u00a0his income\u00a0completely, saying they can no longer pay him disability income\u00a0until 2027.\u00a0Since that time, we have fought to get these benefits restored to no avail.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Our family, with the help of\u00a0skilled\u00a0nurses,\u00a0have cared for Scott for over 40 years. We have\u00a0depended\u00a0on that funding for his acute and vital home\u00a0healthcare needs. He requires\u00a024-hour\u00a0care:\u00a0lifting, transferring, feeding, changing, and bathing. Medicare does not cover the type of care he needs, and the nursing homes\u00a0do not\u00a0have\u00a0sufficient equipment or manpower for the type of attention he\u00a0requires.\u00a0Scott\u2019s\u00a0comfort and health\u00a0is\u00a0our\u00a0focus, especially as he ages and has become so fragile.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The best place for Scott is at home with his loving family – Mom, Harriet, who is 85 years old, and sister, Kayla.
